Value Delivered

Wasatch Electric provided electrical services for this 13-building, new construction project. We worked within a strict budget and tight time frame to deliver campus-wide solutions for our customer, overcoming the challenges faced by working next to a wetland area.

During the course of this project, we worked hand-in-hand with the owner to enhance budgets as the need arose, and offset scheduling delays by increasing resources when necessary. Our efforts ultimately resulted in successful completion within budget and on time.

Client Objectives

Chevron needed an electrical services provider with competencies in 46 kilovolt line and substation design and erection, along with experience working in complex labs, classified storage buildings, technical shops, and class A office spaces.

Their 13-building project involved a variety of facilities, including the main, two-story administration building, an incident command center, a full-service laboratory, a new warehouse, a change house, various shop buildings, a new guard house with access to the facility’s controls, and a Class I Division I retain building to store petroleum.

Solutions

For this project, we worked under an open book audit agreement with a guaranteed maximum price. Four open-book, real-time, detailed estimates were provided to the project team and owner. The project was coordinated with 3-D modeling of all systems.

Throughout the project, design elements changed frequently, and we worked closely with the project team to keep work in budget. Multiple budget-enhancing concepts were evaluated and implemented.

Wasatch Electric provided the following solutions for this project:

  • Created a design-build-campus for telephone and data cabling structure with duct banks and conduit
  • Created a design-build-campus fire alarm system
  • Designed and installed lighting solutions with extensive control systems
  • Provided budgeting, estimating, and material cost benefit analyses
  • Designed and installed a new 46-kilovolt overhead line and two switchyards
  • Installed a 1,200-kilowatt emergency generator with an uninterruptable power supply
